Introducing Hawaii's newest food blog: Sonia Tastes Hawaii

Sonia Martinez must be a born blogger -- her brand new Sonia Tastes Hawaii weblog reads as though she's been doing this for years.

On my first visit there today I found detailed instructions (with photos) for making a framed bed garden, recipes, and a cookbook.

With this kind of versatility, Sonia will be a formidable blogger indeed.

There's still no RSS feed, but as soon as one appears I'll include Sonia Tastes Hawaii over on the right side along with the other Hawaii food blogs. Meanwhile, click on over there and check it out.

Which Hawaii fish are safe to eat?

The Monterey Bay Aquarium web pages are a tremendous resource. In particular, their Seafood Watch pages are a very complete guide to which fish are ok to eat and which to avoid. From that page you can search or browse through their data.

If you're headed to the fish market, there's even a pocket guide to Hawaii which is kept current on their web pages. Just print it out, cut, fold and take along for information at your fingertips. For more detailed information at home, go to their web pages.

Here is the seafood guide for Hawaii and here is the pocket guide.

Hawaii Diner interviews John Heckathorn

Tune in to another impressive podcast over at HawaiiDiner.com. Gail Jennings continues to lead Hawaii's podcasters with her coverage of restaurant and agricultural news and sparkling interviews. Her latest podcast as described in the shownotes (in part):
In part one of our two-part interview with John Heckathorn, noted food writer and man-about-town, he gives us his view of dining in Honolulu and why it's so hard for new places to open. We talk about Hawaii Regional Cuisine at this point in time and why the changes in our dining scene are coming from the bottom up
If you'd like to learn a little more about Gail, I discovered a capsule biography here.
